Capgemini Invent case interview: how to prepare (2026)

Invent publishes what the case is scored on, and the two items candidates skip are composure under pressure and naming the risks in their own recommendation. Here is how to build both into your practice this week.

The Capgemini Invent format
Candidate-led45 minute caseGroup case by marketDigital cases
The short version
  • The case is candidate-led and about 45 minutes long. Invent's own careers guidance calls it a guided case solved in real time. You structure, you ask for the data, you drive to a recommendation.
  • Invent is not the same hiring process as Capgemini. Invent is the group's consulting and transformation brand, and the general Capgemini careers pages describe a lighter process. Read the Invent pages or you will prepare for the wrong thing.
  • A group stage appears in several markets, not all. Invent publishes a half-day group case for its UK and Nordic graduate tracks. Germany's page describes three rounds and no group day.
  • Cases lean digital, not textbook profitability. Transformation, customer experience, operating model and sustainability come up more than margin puzzles, and technology fluency gets probed alongside business logic.
  • The fastest thing you can do today: say a full structure out loud within 90 seconds of a prompt, then keep driving without waiting to be asked.

How does the Capgemini Invent interview process work?

It depends on your country and program. Invent publishes different processes on different national careers pages, but three shapes recur.

1
Application and screening.CV, cover letter, and in graduate programs a few motivation questions. Invent's UK graduate track adds an online strengths test plus a recorded on-camera interview.
2
A screening conversation.Usually 20 to 30 minutes with a recruiter or consultant, on background and motivation. In Germany this first virtual round may already include a case.
3
The case interview. The core stage everywhere: a guided case of approximately 45 minutes in which you solve a business problem in real time. Some markets run two back to back.
4
The final stage. The paths split here. In the UK and the Nordics the published graduate process ends with a half-day event built around a group case. In Germany it is an in-person round with a subject-specific case study. Ask your recruiter which one you get, because the answer changes what you practice this week.

Capgemini Invent vs the rest of Capgemini

Clear this up first, because it sends people to the wrong prep.

Capgemini is the group. A very large technology and services organization: systems integration, engineering, cloud, managed services. Most of its roles, and most of its hiring processes, are technology ones.

Capgemini Invent is the consulting brand inside it. Invent describes itself as the home of digital innovation, design and transformation within the Capgemini Group, with more than 12,500 professionals and over 60 offices. Its work sits in three capability areas: Customer First by frog, Enterprise Transformation, and Intelligent Industry.

Why that matters for prep. The firm's own pages show the gap. Capgemini's group careers FAQ in Germany says the company deliberately does without an assessment centre and describes typically one interview for graduates. Invent's German page describes three rounds with a subject-specific case study. Same country, same parent, two published processes. Use the Invent pages for your country, and treat your recruiter's email as the final authority over both.

What makes the Capgemini Invent case different?

You lead, but the interviewer stays close. Invent calls the case guided, and candidate accounts describe doing most of the driving while the interviewer steers you back when you wander. Read a redirect as information, not failure.

The problems are transformation problems. A stalled digital platform, a leaking customer journey, or a decarbonization roadmap fit what Invent sells better than a clean margin decline. Structures that only split revenue and cost run out of road quickly.

Technology fluency gets probed alongside business logic. You do not need to code. You do need to say what a data problem, a process problem and a platform problem look like, and which one you would test first. Prep sources warn against strategy-only answers here, and Invent's published graduate example is an automotive case on electric and self-driving vehicles.

The group case and the assessment day

Answer first: the group stage is real, Invent publishes it in some countries, and it is not universal. Do not assume you have one, and do not assume you do not.

Where it is published. Invent's UK Accelerate graduate programme describes a half-day event with a group exercise plus a one-to-one strengths-based interview. Its Nordic process, covering Sweden, Denmark and Finland, describes a half-day onsite where graduates work a group case and present to senior consultants, then take a final interview with a Capability Unit Manager.

Where it is not. Germany's published Invent process is three interview rounds with an individual case study and no group day.

What the format looks like. Prep sources describe four to six candidates, 10 to 15 pages of material, about 10 minutes of individual reading, then around 30 minutes of discussion. Capgemini publishes none of these numbers, so treat them as directional.

What gets scored. Your contribution to the group's progress, not your share of the airtime. Three moves cost nothing: summarize out loud when the group drifts, bring the quiet person in, and watch the clock so someone says "we have eight minutes, let us lock the recommendation." Dominating the room is the reliable way to fail.

What does a Capgemini Invent case sound like?

InterviewerOur client is a European insurance group. They spent three years and a large budget on a new digital customer platform, and self-service adoption is still under twenty percent. Where would you start?
CandidateBefore I structure, can I check what success looks like here? Is the goal cost to serve, retention, or both?
InterviewerCost to serve. They want call volume down.
CandidateThen three things in order. First, whether customers can find and finish the journeys that generate the calls. Second, whether the processes and data behind them allow self-service end to end. Third, whether something pushes people back to the phone. I would start with the call drivers.
InterviewerHere is the call mix by reason for the last twelve months. What do you take from it?
CandidateClaims status is thirty eight percent of calls and has stayed flat, while policy changes dropped sharply after launch. So the platform works where it was built out, and claims status was either never digitized or it breaks partway through. I would test that journey next.

Objective first, then a structure said out loud, then a real read of the exhibit instead of a recital of it. That rhythm is trainable, but only when someone pushes back. A CaseRound mock in candidate-led mode runs this way, with exhibits handed to you mid-conversation.

Train the candidate-led rhythm out loud.

A live voice interviewer hands you the prompt, probes your structure, brings exhibits into the conversation, and scores the interview on 8 dimensions. Your first full interview is free, no card needed.

What a CaseRound mock gives you
  • A live voice interviewer who probes your answers, out loud
  • Candidate-led mode, the format Invent's individual case uses
  • Exhibits handed to you mid-conversation, like in the room
  • A score on 8 dimensions plus the full transcript to review
  • Our case library, plus any casebook PDF you upload (Sprint and above)

Not covered, and no tool covers it: the group case and the assessment day. Five other candidates in a room cannot be simulated, and neither can behavioral probing. We also do not have Capgemini Invent's own cases.

Which case types does Capgemini Invent run?

  • Digital transformation. A platform, program or migration that is not delivering. Diagnose why, then sequence the fix. The most characteristic Invent case.
  • Customer experience. Journey redesign, churn, service cost, digital adoption. Often exhibit heavy, with funnels rather than profit tables.
  • Operating model and delivery. How work, roles, data and technology fit together, and what must change for a strategy to be executable.
  • Sustainability and decarbonization. Roadmaps, levers and trade-offs. Reported often enough to prepare for.
  • Profitability and market entry. Still present, especially for experienced hires. Invent's published example covers market sizing, competitive position and target customers.

If your structuring still leans on memorized frameworks, read our guide on why memorized frameworks fail first. Transformation cases punish template answers fastest.

What does a strong Capgemini Invent answer sound like?

Same prompt, two answers. The interviewer says: "The client wants cost to serve down twenty percent in two years. How would you get there?"

A weak answer lists levers:

Weak answerI would look at automation, maybe a chatbot, and some process improvement. There is probably headcount to take out too, and we could digitize more of the journey.

A strong answer sizes them, sequences them, and asks for data:

Strong answerTwenty percent in two years means the levers have to land inside about eighteen months, so I would size three. First, deflection. Which contact reasons are high volume and genuinely self-servable, and what does one point of deflection save. Second, handling time on what stays human, through better tooling and cleaner data. Third, demand. Which contacts exist only because an upstream process failed. I would start with deflection, and I would want contact volume by reason and cost per contact to size it.

The content overlaps almost entirely. The difference is order, quantification, a named starting point and a specific data request. The second sounds like someone who has run a transformation. The first sounds like someone who has read about one.

What do Capgemini Invent interviewers score?

Invent publishes this, which is rarer than it should be. Its careers guidance lists five competencies the case is built to assess:

  • Structured problem solving
  • Quantitative and qualitative analysis
  • Communication and conveying ideas effectively
  • Thinking and presenting under pressure
  • Thinking holistically, including identifying risks and mitigation tactics

Two of those are under-trained. "Thinking and presenting under pressure" is a performance skill, and reading cases silently does nothing for it. "Identifying risks and mitigation tactics" is the one people forget. A recommendation that names what could go wrong, and what you would do about it, reads as materially more senior than one that stops at the answer.

Score yourself against those five instead of just finishing cases. A CaseRound mock scores every interview on 8 dimensions, including structure, math, judgment and synthesis, and returns the full transcript.

How should you practice for Capgemini Invent?

1
Drill the candidate-led opening. Objective check, a structure out loud within 90 seconds, then a first branch you choose yourself. Invent's guidance tells candidates to compose their thoughts, ask clarifying questions, take notes, and close with a recommendation and next steps. Do that in a real conversation, not on paper.
2
Build transformation structures, not just profitability trees.Have a reusable way to talk about current versus target state, and about people, process, data and technology as separate failure points. Then size one lever, out loud.
3
Run full voice mocks and read the transcript. The gap here is rarely knowledge. It is composure, pacing, and saying the insight instead of the observation.
4
Prepare the group case with people, not software. If your market has one, get three or four friends and run it. No tool simulates a room of candidates, ours included. Save your scarce person-time for that and your fit stories.

Where can you find official Capgemini Invent prep resources?

Start with Invent's own careers site, which is unusually specific for a firm this size. The students and graduates section publishes the case format, the length, the five assessed competencies, a worked automotive example, and a list of tips. It also states outright that the firm strongly encourages every candidate to practice case interviewing beforehand. Country pages add the rest: the UK Accelerate page offers a practice demo of the digital interview, and the German page sets out the rounds and the timeline.

Use it actively. Reading a solved case teaches you what a good answer looks like. Running one out loud, with someone probing you, teaches you to produce one. You can do that on CaseRound, including with your own casebook PDF run as a live voice interview on Sprint and above. Comparing tools? See how CaseRound compares.

Capgemini Invent vs. Accenture and Deloitte

Capgemini Invent Accenture Deloitte
Who leads the case Candidate-led, guided Mostly candidate-led Candidate-led
Published case length About 45 minutes Commonly 30 to 60 minutes Typically 30 to 45 minutes
Group stage Published for UK and Nordic graduates Assessment day in some programs Common in finals, varies by office
Case flavor Digital transformation, CX, sustainability Depends on your track Public sector and industry heavy
Signature twist The digital lens on every case The Potentia interview for Strategy Behavioral weight in every round

What happens after the final round?

Capgemini publishes no decision timelines, so treat this as the thinnest evidence on the page. Invent Germany commits publicly to a first response within 10 working days and covers interview travel costs. Candidate-reported process length on review sites clusters at roughly a month, fast by consulting standards but varying by country. In the Nordic track the published last step is a final interview with a Capability Unit Manager, which suggests the group day filters rather than decides. Reapplication policy is unpublished, so ask your recruiter.

Your interview week checklist

  • A structure said out loud within 90 seconds of a cold prompt, three times
  • One transformation structure that is not a profitability tree, ready to reuse
  • Mental math warm-up daily: percentages, growth rates, simple payback
  • Three full voice mocks in candidate-led mode, transcripts reviewed
  • A specific answer to "why Invent and not Capgemini"
  • If your market has a group day, one live practice round with real people
  • Two teamwork stories where your own contribution is concrete

Interview this week? One full mock today will do more than another evening of reading. The first one is free, and Sprint covers 30 sessions for $39.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between Capgemini and Capgemini Invent?

Capgemini is the parent group, and most of it is technology and services work. Capgemini Invent is its consulting and transformation brand, with its own careers pages, process and case interviews. Germany's group careers FAQ says Capgemini deliberately does without an assessment centre and describes typically one interview for graduates. Invent's own page describes three rounds with a case study.

Is the Capgemini Invent case interviewer-led or candidate-led?

Candidate-led, with guidance. Invent calls the case guided, and candidates describe driving the structure and next steps themselves while the interviewer redirects them when they drift.

How long is the Capgemini Invent case interview?

About 45 minutes, per Invent's own careers guidance. Prep sources report 30 to 45 minutes for individual cases, consistent once you subtract the fit portion of the slot.

Does Capgemini Invent have a group case?

In some markets. Invent's UK graduate programme publishes a half-day assessment centre with a group exercise, and its Nordic process a half-day onsite group case presented to senior consultants. Germany's published process has no group day. Prep sources describe four to six candidates and 10 to 15 pages of material, but Capgemini publishes no numbers, so confirm with your recruiter.

How many interview rounds does Capgemini Invent have?

Three is the most commonly published and reported number: a screening conversation, one or more case interviews, and a final stage that is either a group day or another interview.

Do you need a technology background to work at Capgemini Invent?

No, and this is a common misread of the brand. Invent hires strategy, design, data and change profiles alongside technology ones. What the interview expects is fluency: naming what a data problem, a process problem and a platform problem look like, and which you would test first. Purely strategy-layer answers are the most cited weakness here.

Is there an online assessment before the interviews?

It depends on your country and program. Invent's UK graduate track publishes an online strengths test and a recorded on-camera interview. Other markets publish no assessment step, so your invitation email is the only reliable source.

What language will the interview be in?

English is common even in non-English-speaking markets, because Invent staffs international teams. Capgemini's German careers guidance tells applicants for internationally oriented roles to expect a switch to English. Our own interviews run in English.

Can you practice the group case with a tool?

No. A group case is four to six real people negotiating live, and what gets scored is how you affect the group. That needs people. What a tool trains well is the individual case, the one stage every Capgemini Invent process has.

Your next interview should not be the real one.

Run a full candidate-led voice mock: live follow-up questions, exhibits in the conversation, scored feedback on 8 dimensions, and the full transcript to review. The first one is free, no card. Interviewing this month? Sprint is $39 for 30 sessions, no subscription.
